Plumbing
Wall Waterfalls - Part 3
December 20, 2005
Well... the plumber has completely fallen through on me. He won't return my phone calls even when I tell him I have all of the work opened and exposed for him. Looks like I will be doing the work myself.
I'm going to hacksaw parts of the cast iron out in sections (unless I can find someone that has a repricol saw). I will then replace with a PVC line. I'm pretty sure I'll be reusing this connector:

By moving it to the top where the old/good cast iron will meet the PVC. I'll then have a PVC connection on the bottom where the new PVC will meet the slightly older PVC that you see in the above photo.
I've got to get this done because it's completely halted my drywalling work in the kitchen.
After that I'll be tackling my hot water piping which is all sorts of fucked up. Pictures of that to come.

There you have the wall section cut all the way out. Thanks to Mike for letting me borrow his circular saw. Made easy work of the wall.
Called the plumber and rescheduled to pull this out Thanksgiving weekend. Once the PVC is in, we'll have that to be thankful for.

Wall Waterfalls - Part 2

I figured it out.
Behold, cracked pipe!

Here's some up close shots.

Here's where the stack makes a 90 degree turn, right above the ceiling.

All of this work leaves the kitchen wall looking like this:

So I might as well tear out the whole wall, insulate it, then drywall it. Much more efficient that way.
Funny that I'm saying this, but the damage isn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Worse than you could ever imagine
October 27, 2005
Well... it looks like there is a leak somewhere in the waste pipe coming from the waste stack in the upstairs bathroom. I'm predicting that it's at the T where the toliet and shower waste lines meet and then go down the kitchen wall and out the sewer line in the basement because last night after taking a shower I went down in the basement and there was a waterfall in the middle of the house. Curious, I then flushed the toliet and water came rushing down so I know it has to do something with the two lines.
I'm probably going to have to tear out the bathroom floor and then
replace everything down to the new plumbing in the basement. This also means pulling out the kitchen wall which was something I thought I could get away with not doing.
Money was tight, but I don't think this is something I can get done without pinching. I called the plumber and the earliest he said he could come and just look at the problem was Saturday. And that was a big maybe.
Damn this house. Damn it to fucking hell.

Plumbing Day
June 05, 2005
Plumbing day came and went on Friday. I thought I would share some photos of the progress made.
Here are the before and after photos of the sewage line that runs down through the kitchen wall from the upstairs bathroom...

Next is the same sewage line before and after the connections where made to the sewer line into the basement foundation wall...

And finally here are photos of the two laundry hookups the plumber put in. Notice the nice valves he installed for future shutoff use.

All in all some solid and quick work on the plumbers part. Next comes the bathroom, which I'll post about soon.
