Wanted: Bathroom sink
January 17, 2006
Since I gave myself an extra 10" inside the 1st floor bathroom wall, I'm looking for a wall mounted sink that would fit the space. I was thinking a 17" deep (from the back of the sink to the front) would fit, but that would be clearly oversized for the space.
I would like to spend the least amount of money possible to get something that will conviently fit the space. Something like this would do the trick, but the price is a little too high for the convience.
Help me out people. Cost is an issue here, and there are no housing salvage yards in my area that I know of.

Toliet Closet - Part 1
December 23, 2005
I wanted to give you guys a visual update on what was once referred to the toliet closet. (And it will probably always be referred as so even when everything is fixed.)
Here's a wide shot showing what it looks like now compared to what it was before.
BEFORE

AFTER

I've removed the entire upper portion of the wall that was cut into and I am going to be bringing the wall out 9 inches to accomidate a sink inside what will be a small bathroom. The wall will be flush with where you can see the opening (from the dining room/kitchen) trim. (On the right of the BEFORE photo.) I'm also thinking of painting the entire wall with chalkboard paint so that we can use it for memos and recipes, ect.
Here is a series of shots starting at the top showing the detail of the bare walls. I've got a number of things to fix as you can see.

Here's a shot of the 2x4 in which the old wall once came down.

Finally... get ready for it... not fireboards to make a plaster wall but...
HARDWOOD FLOOR PLANKS!

Yeah, those are getting torn out. As it stands, there's no space behind the small toliet that I don't think I will be able to replace (small toliets are a hard find these days) and the wall is currently 1" and will then be 1/2" when I rip the wall out and replace it with 1/2" drywall.
As you can see, there's still a lot of work to come.

In the market for a good, but inexpensive toilet.

Needed: Small bathroom sink
August 12, 2005
I'm looking for an affordable bathroom sink that is compact (read: small). Our bathroom isn't as big as we would hope it would be, so space is an issue. I'm looking for something that is preferbly less deep than it is wide but that is usable without getting frustrated.
Also looking for where I could get a decent sized toliet (read: small but powerful).

Bathroom progress, Part 4

Worked continued on the shower enclosure Sunday afternoon. Grouted 2 walls:

You can compare my work on the shower like the Little Engine That Could. "I think I can, I think I can!"
Eventually the bathroom will be complete... someday. *sigh*

I bit the bullet and ended up buying my tile at Lowes this past Saturday. I then took a couple of days to develop a gameplan and on Monday I tackled the first of three walls enclosing the new shower. Here's an updated photo of what I got done.

Now all I need to do is to buy a couple of more boxes of tile and mix some more mortar and get back to work!

White tile
July 04, 2005
I need to get my act in gear and get the shower tile up on the walls. I'm going with a white tile with possibly a blue stripe around the middle. Thing is, I'm not wanting to shell out a lot for it. Lowes has white 4.25" tile for 12 cents a piece.
Any suggestions on where else I should look for a better price?

The bathroom window conundrum
June 13, 2005
I have a problem. Well... not nessasarily a problem, but needing to make an exectutive descision in terms of the window that will reside on the interior shower wall.
I'm in the process of finding rope to repair the weighted window (question: any place I could get good quality rope or other kit to repair the window?)... and I am wondering if after repairing the window if I should cover the gap for the weights with cement board or if I should leave the gap and install some waterproof trim (if that even exists!) If I cover the gap, I will install tile up to where the window begins. It'll make for a nice look I think, but if the window ever breaks again, I'd have to remove the tile to fix it. (Then again, proping the window open with a stick isn't too inconvenient.
Here's a photo for reference.

So... if I cover the gap I'll install tile and attempt to waterproof the rest of the window. (Any suggestions on paint/sealant is welcomed.)

Bathroom progress

On Saturday the plumber came and installed a shower in the wall.
I purchased a single turn valve for the shower, so the plumber and I were thinking of placing the value in the orange area where I removed the older brown speckled tile.

Well... we discovered that wouldn't work because the valve would be installed on an outside wall so we were forced to move the valve down to the (awkwardly) installed box just above the tub.

Here's an alternate view of the plumber's work.

After some help from my sister we got some of the cement boards installed. I let her go home after two of the larger panels were installed and took care of the cement board around the (awkward) box so that the plumber could come back and sweat the valve for the faucet and shower mechanism.

Here's a view of the back of the tub.

The only thing left at this point is to install panels on the outside wall with the window. Before I can do that I need to puchase two repair kits for a rope weighted window. I'd much rather take care of that before I cover the openings with cement board, you know?

Toliet closet
May 09, 2005
Time for some fun.
Ever wish you could open up a closet door...

And find a toliet?

That's right! Behind door number one you can number two!
(Notice the kitchen refrigerator next to the toliet via a large hole cut into the wall.)
Plans are to push the refrigerator out, frame up the wall, close it up, install a new toliet, and see if installing a small sink is possible.
